Top100 (300 to 357)

8

Numbers are only as good as they say they are.

I have been looking around for a site that has listed the best blogs, and ran into 45n5.com which is run by Mark Wielgus.  I took a good look at the site, and while I was impressed with such a compilation I was curious to see if while it says it was updated weekly if it truely was.  The Top 50 were sure to be all active, meaning active within the last week, So I started at the bottom and you can see the results below.

It’s no wonder why so many blogs are unsuccessful, you can see it, most blogs start out with fire, 20+ post within their first month, then maybe a repeat the next month, but the 3rd month it seems to be the hardest,  there’s an imaginary wall.  Why?  Is it blog cramp? Is it lethargy? What exactly is it?

No Commitment

Yes it is, you can fight me on this, and I would love it if you did, but those who don’t stick with something are simply not comitted to it.  I think of someone running a marathon, while I have never ran a marathon, I’m not committed enough to do it.  So this is more metiphorical than a real life example,  but you have to “REALLY” be committed to running inorder to run a marathon.  You not only have to train everyday, run like crazy but you have to also eat healthy, you have to take care of your body, you can’t smoke, or drink too much and you have to be committed not only to running but to multiple aspect in your life.

Now what

In shut up and blog, I talk about commitment, if you are truely commited to doing something you will do it no matter what, even if you aren’t making any money or becomming famous by it, you do it because you love it.  The example below is simply the facts, many, many blogs are started each day, and yet 3 months later they are DEAD.

Watch for Part 2  (200 – 299) coming later , but for now what can you learn from seeing what others have done, or better yet not done.

Freelancer 2.0 is alive and buzzing my friend. Got a face lift, a squid lift, a traffic boost, and a challenge to top the 100 hundred list by December, 2008. Good post and looking forward to more blogs waking up!

Is it commitment or disappointment? I think a lot of MMO blogs are started because the owners think they’ll be rich and raking in a ton of dough within a month. Then the dough doesn’t start rolling in and they are disappointed which leads to giving up.

I think blogging for money is not easy to do, it must be learn and try. Every time some blogger is born and some is dead. Nice list.

Thanks for the comment, I enjoyed going through the list as it seems like there is a lot of “hype” to get on the list, and yet many are DEAD or haven’t updated in a while. It only shows you what the list is worth.

In my case I stopped one blog and started another when I realized I could do better with a different strategy. My latest blog was set up to generate targeted traffic to software products that I was developing but shifted towards the MMO niche when I realized that I haven’t got the time to support software that I was going to sell to consumers. I am in my 7th month now and feel like it should hold my interest for a long time to come.

I agree that you have to love what you do otherwise it will be too hard to keep going unless you somehow make a lot of income from it.
